Beef Shawarma sandwich Iraqi style

Beef Shawarma dish is a very popular and well-known dish in Iraq and also the Middle East, it is usually a street vendor food. As you walk the street of Baghdad or anywhere in the Middle East you would not miss this dish, it is available everywhere you go. It is a very thin sliced beef topped with tomatoes, basil, orange pepper, and yogurt sauce. Very simple and delicious dish. You can easily change this dish in any way you like or add or take out ingredients.


Ingredients


  • 1 Ib. of beef cut very thin slices

  • ½ tablespoon of nutmeg

  • 1 tablespoon grand masala

  • 1 tablespoon cumin

  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce

  • ½ tablespoon hot sauce

  • ½ tablespoon vinegar

  • 1 tablespoon ginger powder

  • 1 tablespoon yogurt

  • Salt as preferred

  • 1 sliced white onion

  • 1 ½ cup of cilantro

  • 2 tablespoons of Olive oil

  • ¼ cup water.

  • 2 slices of yellow cheese for each sandwich (option)

Salad

  • 1 sliced tomatoes

  • 1 sliced orange pepper

  • ½ cups of basil chopped

  • 1 small sliced cucumber

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 1 tablespoon vinegar

  • salt

Instruction:

In a large bowl add the beef, nutmeg, grand masala, cumin, soy sauce, vinegar, ginger powder, hot sauce and Salt.

In the grill pan put the beef strip and let it cook for 2 to 3 minute or until you see the grill marks.


In a pan put the olive oil and sauté the onion then add the cilantros.

Then add the cooked beef strips to the mixture. Add ¼ cup of water cover and let it cook for 5 to 6 minutes.

Make the salad, in a bowl mix the tomatoes, orange pepper, basil chopped, cucumber, olive oil, vinegar and salt.

Put yogurt on the pita, add the beef strip mixture and then salad on the top.
